No new Saturn Colors for 2011

Posted by Webs User on January 11, 2011 at 7:36 PM

Well I guess the boys and Girls at Mapex really aren't listening to us loyal Saturn lovers.  They are more interested in getting new people.  They are not doing anything new to the Saturn line for this year.

You mean the boys and girls at Mapex. That is really poor business sense of Mapex. There are so many more buyers ready to buy Saturns for their sound, but the finishes just aren't there - the foreign Maple is okay for sound but not for finish. Need at least 2 or 3 exotic would veneers - add $350 if they want, but come on... this nickle and diming on limited standard finishes and Black Chrome - that is ridiculous... black chrome doesn't really cost more to fabricate - it should be cheaper because they mix enamel with the nickle.

Also, since they added an SE version with the Burl Maple for Birch/Walnut Saturn (and I like the sienna tone of that), they REALLLY REALLY should offer that with the more popular Saturn Maple/'Walnut... its ridiculous not to. If they did.. I will and I said WILL buy one immediately as long as I can buy a smaller bass drum size.
their factory can handle this, but they think they are going to get more sales... they won't unless they continu to give people what they want... more Saturn with better finishes...
I already know from so many professional piers that this is what they are looking for. Also, as ugly as the ITS tom mount is for Saturn I believe it is a better solution than the other one, now on this I may be wrongl, but I am just not a believer in the newer mount system for Meridian and BP. I think they just haven't taken the time to develop a lower profile version of the Orion/'Saturn mount, otherwise they could have something even better for BP kits... and not putting the ITS on the BP floor toms is a real cop out, that BS about tone is just BS... suspending the drum always allows better tone and resonance, and the Blaster could use a tad more - but beautiful finish on that Blaster kit Mpaex, and I still love your company - just listen to us about the finishes and drum sizes for Saturn - we'll buy Sooo many more kits!!!!

By the way love your set up Glen AND YOU should definitely get a pic on the fridge - you put A LOT of EFFORT into making nice pictures - both those outdoor shots I saw on Mapex USA facebook wall were VERY NICE! Sweet Setup! Congrats!

Mapex obviously doesn't sell as many Saturns as they COULD BE...
Seriously, Mapex.... Ensure high quality with the painting processes and bearing edges... AND ADD HIGHER QUALITY FINISHES...

With fades, dark should be on bottom (i.e you finally got that right with the LE Birch/Walnut Saturn Sienna fade over Burl - but ITS MORE THAN 30% solid dark - which is covering the expensive Exotic Burl - Does that make sense?

With Bursts, no matter how large the drum, the solid hues at top and bottom should not be solid more than a half inch past the lugs... again, you are wasting the main finish color or wood grain, and also there still must be a few inches minimum for actual fade from the dark outer color to the main inner color... PLEASE GET THIS RIGHT MAPEX, because what you do now makes your finishes look much more amateur than the major manufacturers.

And Mapex - PLEASE do a Sienna Burl and a few other exotic veneers for Saturn MAPLE/Walnut... This WILL increase sales for a line of drums that has promise... more promise than doing short run LEs.

Thanks and keep up the good work Mapex! BTW. I hope future Bps will have an improved ITS mount on Floor Toms as well as Toms, others have complained about this as well...

Hey buddy. I agree with all you have said in this post. Hopefully if we get enough of a voice on here they will listen. I think next year will be Saturns year for an overhall. We will see new exotic finishes, new mounts, new colors. Lets wait and see. We need to keep on tellilng them what we want and hopefully they will listen.

Thanks you for the kind comments about my kit. I will make the fridge some day :)
